• We desire all Christians to be part of and passionate about their local church.  We don't assume we are the church for everyone, but we have the gospel that everyone needs and we want to share it with others.  We desire to be very up front with you about what we believe and why we believe it.  Please read "What We Believe" and find out about Sovereign Grace Ministries so that you can be more informed if the Lord is leading you to be a part of our church family.

What We Believe

We believe . . .

The Bible is the Word of God, fully inspired and without error. It is the supreme and final authority for all matters of Christian life and belief.

There is one true and living God, who eternally exists in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit - who are equal in every divine perfection and who execute distinct but harmonious offices in all the work of the Godhead.

Man was created by God in His own image, but through his sin incurred physical and spiritual death. As a result, all people are separated from God by their sin and are lost and without hope apart from salvation in Christ.

The Gospel is the good news of God's saving actions towards sinners through Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, the eternal son of God, took on human nature, lived a sinless life, and died a substitutionary death for sinners. He was then raised on the third day and later ascended to heaven.

Salvation is a free gift that comes only by God's grace, through faith in Jesus Christ. Anyone who turns from their sin and trusts in Jesus Christ and His death on their behalf receives forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.

The Holy Spirit works progressively to transform genuine believers more and more into the image of Christ. His work is carried on in our hearts through such appointed means as the study of Scripture, prayer, worship, and fellowship with other believers. The Holy Spirit also empowers believers for Christian witness and service and gives gifts for the building up of the body of Christ, the church.

The universal church, composed of genuine followers of Christ, exists to worship, serve, and glorify God. All members of the universal church are to be vitally committed members of a local church, where they receive pastoral care and the opportunity to employ their God-given gifts in His service.

Jesus Christ will return to the earth, personally and visibly, to establish His kingdom in the new heavens and the new earth. We believe in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the lost - the saved to endless joy, living and reigning with Christ, and the lost to endless punishment away from the benevolent presence of God.

Our Story

Mike Seaver (lead pastor) and Jim Hawkins (associate pastor) have been serving at the Sovereign Grace church (Crossway Community Church) in Charlotte, NC for several years. In January 2010, Mike, Jim and the elders at the church talked and prayed about the two men and their families planting a church together in South Carolina.

After many trips, contacts, and prayers, it appeared that the Lord was forming a core group in the Charleston/Summerville area who desired a gospel-centered church that Sovereign Grace is known for.

In the summer of 2010, Sovereign Grace officially affirmed the need for and desire to plant this church. We launched Sovereign Grace Church of the Lowcountry on August 20, 2011.

Sovereign Grace Church of the Lowcountry is part of a growing family of Christian churches in the United States, Mexico, Canada, Bolivia, Ethiopia, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Germany and the United Kingdom which are joined together under the banner of Sovereign Grace Ministries.

With other Sovereign Grace Ministries churches we share:

A vision to establish and support local churches

A passion for the gospel of Jesus Christ

A commitment to our doctrinal distinctives

A desire to see the members of these churches glorify God in their public and private lives - both corporately and as individuals

As part of its commitment to equip and develop local churches, Sovereign Grace Ministries:

Provides a number of resources (such as books, teaching, music, etc.)

Holds conferences (small group, worship, leadership, Next, etc.)
